my family has enjoyed many years of exploring the magic of the fort wilderness resort; taking golf cart rides around the campsite loops and spotting deer, rabbits, & turkey around the resort grounds. you can even watch the electric boat parade and magic kingdom fireworks show from its tranquil beach area. let us help you explore the peaceful relaxing magic of the fort wilderness resort and campground.

  • type of resort: the fort wilderness resort is considered a value resort with moderate resort amenities disney resort with campsite and cabin stays. 
  • camping at fort wilderness: in order to camp at the fort wilderness resort, you will need to bring your own tent or pull/drive your own camper to the resort. in addition, you are required to do your own parking and setup. 
  • camper rentals: although disney does not rent out campers themselves, they do have disney featured RV rental providers that will deliver and set up your rental at your campsite. you will have to book your campsite stay separately through disney.  1. choose your rv provider 2. book your campsite stay at fort wilderness 3. the rv provider will deliver and set up the camper at your campsite.
    • disney featured rv providers: meacham’s rv rental, escape rv rental, kissimmee orlando rv rental, & ohana camper rental are disney “vetted” reputable companies. according to the disney site, when renting through one of these providers, you do not have to be present when the equipment is delivered to the resort. the provider will work with a cast member to manage the delivery, set up, & return the rental. (see our pixie dust tips below for links and contact information).  
  • types of campsites: there are 5 categories of campsites at the fort wilderness resort: tent/pop-up, full hook-up, preferred, premium, & premium meadow campsite stays. the fort is made up of 21 camping loops with 10-80 sites per loop. the number of sites per loop depends on the loop you request.
  • tent or pop-up sites: these campsites are located on loops 1500 & 2000. they are the smallest sites at 10 ft x 25 ft because they are made for tent camping. these sites are designed with a concrete pad and a sandy area to make it easier to pitch your tent. these are the cheapest sites. prices range from $87 a night and up to $180 a night depending on the time of year you visit. sites are equipped with power, water, cable, & internet (no sewer hook-up).
  • full hookup sites: these campsites are located in loops 1600, 1700, 1800, & 1900. these sites are designed with a concrete pad and sandy area for parking a camper and pitching a tent. sites extend anywhere from 10 ft wide to 50 ft long. they are equipped with power, water, sewer, cable, & internet. they are a distance from the marina and meadows area, but have less traffic and noise. these sites are priced mid-range. prices range from $124 a night and up to $230 a night depending on the time of year you visit.
  • preferred sites: these campsites are located in loops 100, 200, & 300 and closest to pioneer hall, the settlement trading post, & the boat launch at the marina. the boat launch provides transportation to magic kingdom. although these sites are a great location, they vary in size. they are larger than full hook-up sites, but there are only a select few. some sites are 10ft wide & 45 ft long, but most tend to be a bit of a tight fit for large class a motorhomes. they are designed with a narrow concrete pad and sandy area to pitch a tent. these sites are equipped with power, water, cable, sewer, & internet. they sites are the 3rd highest priced sites. prices range from $136 a night and up to $260 a night depending on the time of year you visit.
  • premium sites: these campsites are located in loops 400, 500, 700, 1100, 1200, & 1300. these sites are designed to be much larger to accommodate larger class a motorhomes and rigs. they are designed with larger concrete pads extending from 18 ft wide x 60 ft long (no sandy area). these sites are equipped with power, water, sewer, cable, internet, upgraded picnic tables, & outdoor grills. they are a bit pricey, but in a good location to all the campground amenities. prices range from $147 a night and up to $280 a night depending on the time of year you visit.
  • premium meadows sites: these campsites are located in loops 600, 800, 900, 1000, & 1400. closest to the pools, trading post, campground activities, & campfire sing-a-long. these sites are designed with larger concrete pads to accommodate larger class a motorhomes and rigs. sites extend anywhere from 18 ft wide to 60 ft long (no sandy area). they are equipped with power, water, sewer, cable, internet, upgraded picnic tables, & outdoor grills. they are the highest priced sites because of their prime locations. prices range from $160 a night and up to $280 a night depending on the time of year you visit.
  • loop request: when booking a fort wilderness campsite–1st choose the type of site you want (tent, full hookup, premium, or premium meadows). you can request a specific loop or loops by asking a cast member or  by making a request at booking in your my disney experience account. at check out, it will prompt you to add the members of your party, payment type & delivery, but it will also prompt you to fill out a section on what type of rig and equipment you have—-this is where you will fill in any specific loop request. i have always requested a loop for our campsite stays: for example, i may request loops 400 or 500 when i speak to a cast member or book online. these request are not guaranteed, but i must say, i have always gotten placed in the loop i requested. disney will always do it’s best to grant your request.
  • traveling with friends?: if you are traveling with friends, you can contact a disney cast member or go into your my disney experience account and link your stay together by reservation number. this will alert disney to place you together in the same loop. 
  • cabins: in 2024 disney opened 350 new cabins at the fort wilderness resort. these cabins are part of the disney vacation club (DVC) and are replacing the once iconic wilderness cabins.  the new dvc cabins  sleep up to six people. these are designed as a 1 bedroom cabin with 1 queen bed, 1 pull down bed, and 1 bunk bed. this includes a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, microwave, full oven, and a patio deck. these are a bit pricey at around $550 a night and up, but they do sleep up to six people. it’s fully equip kitchen allows for plenty of grocery storage and preparation of your own meals. this could be a money savings deal depending on your family size.
  • rules for campfires at your campsite: you can bring your own contained units. this means you are not able to burn an open fire. it must be a fire pit or outdoor fireplace made of solid metal bottom that sits on legs. you must also have a mesh or metal top to contain the fire so embers do not spread to trees or foliage. 
  • supplies: make sure to bring rv hoses and electrical hookups, flashlights, string lights, outdoor garbage can, comfy chairs, insect repellent, charcoal, lighters, ice chest, extension cords, and all other camping needs. 
  • eating at your campsite: save money on food by staying at the disney campsites. stock up your camper with your favorite snacks, food, and drinks. my family always eats a good breakfast before heading to the parks. we load up with snacks and sometimes with sandwiches & pb&j to take into the parks. in the evenings we grill or heat up precooked meals. either way, we are able to enjoy our favorite meals and save money at the same time. 
  • hitch and unhitch area: the campground provides a hitch and unhitch area to off-load personal golf carts or vehicles.

  • moderate resort: the fort wilderness resort is considered a moderate stay which includes all the amenities of a disney world moderate resort. themed cabins, dining choices (table & quick service), 2 pools, & tons of activities. 
  • online check in: the fort wilderness resort gives you access to your reservation online through the my disney experience app. simply click –my plans–start check-in now and bypass the reception outpost check in. you will receive real-time cabin and campsite ready updates, including your cabin or campsite number, and the arrival instructions.
  • don’t want to check in online?: no problem, the fort is designed with multiple slots for big rigs to pull right up to the reception outpost. exit your vehicle and step into the reception outpost to check in with a cast member. 
  • spot cleanliness: just like a resort or hotel stay, all campsite sites are cleared of trash and hosed off by a cast member to make sure your campsite is ready for your arrival. 
  • security: the entrance to the fort is gated and requires the use of your magic band for re-entry. security personnel is stationed at the entrance of the fort and they patrol the fort daily. 
  • complimentary standard parking: what does it mean to have complimentary parking? it means each cabin and campsite provides parking for one vehicle. no need to park in the overflow parking lot. drive right up to your cabin or campsite. complimentary parking includes all standard self-parking at  disney theme parks & other disney resort hotels. 
  • complimentary high speed internet: high speed internet is available whether you are at your cabin, campsite, or enjoying a day at pool or around the campground. 
  • comfort stations: the fort offers comfort stations throughout loops within the campground. these comfort stations are extremely clean and spacious with restrooms, showers, laundry, and ice. each station offers a separate men’s and women’s side. each side has private toilets, showers, sinks, & mirrors. to access the comfort stations, you need to use a magic band or key to the world card (room card) to scan to enter. this safety feature makes the comfort station restricted to guests only. 
  • comfort station supplies: unfortunately, disney does not supply you with all your comfort station needs. we recommend bringing: water shoes or flip flops, comfy clothes, a bag to carry: soap, shampoo, and other toiletries. 
  • laundry facilities: each comfort station offers 5 to 6 washers & dryers. it is safe and convenient. i have many times left my clothes washing, set a timer, and returned later for pick up. laundry services are not free so make sure to bring a credit card with you, no cash accepted: $3 per wash & $3 per dryer. also bring your own detergent, although, detergent packets can be purchased at the vending machine within the laundry mat. we recommend bringing: a collapsible laundry basket or bag, detergent, dryer sheets, and a credit/debit card.
  • laundry online app: for the laundry facility there is the online option to check if machines are available or unavailable.  laundryview.com (see link below in pixie dust tips) allows you to searching for–fort wilderness campground resort & campground–at prompts you to choose a specific loop comfort station laundry facility. this will give you a full view of what units are available. from this link, you can request a text notification when your laundry is complete or report a problem with any machines.
  • ice machines: every comfort station has an ice machine and bags. ice is not free. fill up a 7 lb bag for $2.00. credit cards only. make sure to have your bag in place before swapping your card. the ice will dispense immediately. this is a much more convenient then heading to the trading post to pick up a bag of ice. after all, you are camping and will need ice to keep those drinks cold in that ice chest. 
dining at fort wilderness
  • dining options: the fort wilderness resort offers a variety of dining options: quick service, table serving dining, and bar service. 
  • the chuck wagon: the chuck wagon is a food truck located just outside of trail’s inn. meal period: lunch and dinner (times may vary so it’s wise to check the my disney app when you visit). the chuck wagon is counter service dining, but it serves some tasty treats: hot dogs, chips, carrots, cuties, popcorn, mickey-shaped pretzels, ice-cream, assorted sodas, water, & adult alcoholic beverages. it is also the spot to get s’mores kits for the campfire sing-a-long.
  • meadow snack bar: this open-air snack bar is located at the meadow pool area. you can find fresh salads, sandwiches, hot dogs, loaded chips, pb&j, fruits & veggies, mickey-shaped pretzels, banana pudding, ice cream, assortment of fountain drinks, milk, apple juice, beer, & moonshine cocktails. meal period: 11 am to 6 pm.
  • trail’s inn: trail’s inn is a quick service market style restaurant. it serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. it offers tasty breakfast, lunch, & dinner entrees, pizza, a bakery, kid’s meals, gluten and allergy- friendly meals, quick grab and go meals, an assortment of drinks (sodas, teas, coffee, etc), including beer, and specialty cocktails. meal period: breakfast, lunch, & dinner. you can mobile order. 
  • the hoop-dee-doo revue: the hoop-dee-doo musical revue is a fan favorite around the disney resorts. you need to book dining reservations to get a seat at this dinner show. the show takes place in the barn-shaped pioneer hall. this family-friendly show is filled with fun dancing, entertainment, and comedy antics. you get delicious family style servings of fried chicken, ribs, beans, mashed potatoes, cornbread-crusted mac & cheese, and strawberry shortcake. enjoy adult beverages too.
    • reservations: advanced reservations can be made through the my disney experience app. 
    • dining plan: when using the dining plan, 2 table-service meals will be redeemed per person. this means you will have to skip a sit-down meal on one of your other days and be creative with meal planning.  
    • prepay: advanced pre-payment is required with your reservation. cancellations may result in charges if your reservation is not cancelled with prior notice (see disney’s reservation & cancellation policy).
    • check-in: tickets are no longer used for entry into the hoop-dee-doo revue. use your my disney experience app for check-in or the check-in booth at pioneer hall upon your arrival. 
    • seating: there are 3 different seating categories that are priced according to location and proximity to the stage. category 1 & 2 are on the main floor. both of these categories are wheel-chair accessible, category 3 is second-floor balcony seating and has no elevator. seating is allocated by party size and category purchase. 
    • pricing: prices range from $35 to $60 per person. taxes and gratuity are included.
activities
  • pools: two pools are located on the grounds of the fort wilderness campground: meadow and wilderness swimmin’ pools. meadow pool area is the largest with a corkscrew waterslide, splash pad, & whirlpool spa. the wilderness pool is tucked away near the cabins with a whirlpool spa. each pool is heated. the meadow pool offers fun-filled activities throughout the day. hours and lifeguard availability varies by pool. towels are not provided so you will have to bring your own. 
  • fishing: the fort offers guided fishing tours. bass boats accommodate 3 people and pontoon boats accommodate 5 people. 2 and 4 hour excursions are offered at a price. the excursion is a catch and release. excursions can be booked 90 days in advance through the my disney experience app. all fishing gear and life jackets are provided along with assorted soda drinks. food and alcoholic beverages (ages 21 and older) can be brought on the excursion.
  • basketball courts, sand volleyball, and jogging trails: several basketball courts and jogging trails can be found throughout the fort. a sand volleyball court is located at the meadows recreation area. complimentary equipment is available at the bike barn. 
  • playgrounds: multiple playgrounds can be found throughout the fort. 
  • arcades: the campground has two arcades. davey crockett wilderness arcade in pioneer hall and daniel Boone wilderness arcade at the meadow pool. 
  • chip and dale’s campfire sing-along: sing along, dance, roast marshmallows, and meet chip and dale. this campfire sing-along is free. you can purchase snacks and s’more kits at the chuck wagon or bring your own s’mores to roast at two large campfires. chip and dale swing by for photos and autographs. bench seating is provided, but you can bring camp chairs and blankets. stay awhile to watch a movie under the stars. the campfire sing-along is nightly from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm but subject to weather conditions. check the fort wilderness front desk or posted notice at the campfire stage for the movie schedule. 
  • electrical parade and fireworks: drive your golf cart to the beach of the fort marina and watch the disney electrical water parade go by or watch the magic kingdom fireworks from the beach. the magic of disney spreads throughout the campground. music from the magic kingdom fireworks show is played through hidden speakers along the fort wilderness beach. this is great place for young children to watch the fireworks from afar away from all the park noise and crowds.
  • archery experience: guest 7 years or older can try their hand at archery at the bike barn. guest get to experience a 75 minute archery class of learning to use a compound bow and practice hitting a target. this experience cost $49 per person excluding tax. each class is limited to 10 people so its highly recommended to make advanced reservations through the my disney experience app. There is a 24 hour cancellation policy. 
  • bike, canoe, & kayak rentals: rentals can be purchased at the bike barn at the meadow recreational area between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm daily.
    • canoe & kayak rentals: canoe and kayak rentals are $15 per person for a full day rental. no reservation is needed, but it is on a first come, first serve basis so its best to get your rental in the early morning to ensure availability. a guest must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s license (parents can rent for children). complimentary life jackets must get worn in canoes and kayaks. 
    • bike rentals: bike rentals are a great way to get around the campground and enjoy exploring. the fort offers adult and children’s bikes (some with training wheels). bikes are available on a first come, first serve basis as a daily rental. rentals are $20 for a full day. helmets and child seats are complimentary with rentals. florida law requires that guest under 16 wear a helmet. 
  • tri-circle-d ranch: the tri-circle-d ranch is a newly built stable near the settlement & marina. it houses all the horses you see throughout the disney parks. the stable is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily and is open to the public for a free stroll through the stable to see many of the amazing disney horses. no reservation is required.
    • the trail blaze corral: the trail blaze corral is located near the front entrance of the fort near the theme park bus port. experience trail rides, pony rides, & wagon/carriage rides. 
    • trail rides: for trail rides you must be 9 years or older. this adventure is a 45 minute walking pace ride through the fort wilderness trails.  cost per person is $65 plus tax. trail rides need to be booked in advance and reservations can be made online on the my disney experience app. 
    • wagon/carriage rides: galloping on the trails not for you? take a wagon or carriage scenic ride through the fort. cost around $65 for a 25 minute stroll. you will need to book in advance and reservations can be made online on the my disney experience app.  this can be seasonal so check availability ahead of your visit. 
    • pony rides: for pony rides, kids must be 2 years or older, weigh under 80 lbs., & less than 48 inches. cost per child $10 plus tax. no advanced reservations needed.
  • beach area: fort wilderness does have a beach area along the shores of the marina. swimming is not allowed at the beach. this is strictly for relaxing, enjoying the sun, & watch the boats come and go from the dock. 
transportation
  • golf carts: golf carts are the best option to getting around easily at fort wilderness. it is a great way to explore the camping loops, get from place to place, and spot wildlife.
    • golf cart rentals: golf cart rentals at fort wilderness range between $70 and $90 a day. you can rental a golf cart for the length of your stay by calling the fort and speaking to a cast member or by going online through the my disney experience app. we highly recommend booking your golf cart in advance to your stay. you won’t regret the rental i guarantee. the campground is large so you will need wheels to get around and a car just won’t do. the fort provides ample golf cart parking at the bus depot, marina, restaurants, campfire sing-along, and meadows recreation area. it makes it convenient for catching those early morning bus rides to the parks and those late nights returns.
    • bring your own golf cart: if you own your own golf cart, you will not regret hauling it to fort wilderness, especially since it is no extra charge. that’s right, it’s free to bring your own cart. beginning on June 1st, 2024 proof of insurance is required and a wavier must be filled out at the reception outpost.
  • bikes: a bike is another great way to get around the campground. bike racks can be found at all the hot spots of the campground. you can rental a bike from the bike barn or bring your own bike. 
  • internal buses: there are three different bus lines (orange, purple, & yellow) that run throughout the campground. bus stops are positioned throughout the fort along the main road. these buses start running at 6:30 am and run late at night. buses come around to stops every 15-20 minutes so make sure to plan according for getting to the marina or front of the fort in plenty of time to catch an early boat ride to magic kingdom or bus ride to the parks.
    • orange line: the orange line runs down the middle of the campground. it serves the 600, 700, 1000-1300 loops. 
    • purple line: the purple line serves the cabins and the 2000-2800 campsite loops. 
    • yellow line: the yellow line serves the 100-500 and 1400-1900 campsite loops.
    • orange and yellow line:  both these lines go to the meadows recreational area. the purple line does not. all lines to go the settlement and outpost areas. 
  • theme park buses: fort wilderness provides complimentary bus transportation to the disney theme parks and disney springs.  buses to the parks are located at the front of the fort wilderness campground at the outpost. buses typically start running 45-60 minutes prior to the park opening and run 1 hour after park closing. buses run through the outpost every 10-15 minutes. 
  • water taxi: a water taxi can be taken to the magic kingdom resort. board a water taxi at the fort wilderness marina at the back of the resort. the water taxi runs on the same type of schedule as the buses. 
  • walking: the fort offers sidewalks throughout the campground to get in steps and enjoy the beauty of the campground.
pets at fort wilderness
  • bring your pet to the fort: all fort wilderness campsites are now pet friendly.
  • policies: pets must be on a leash that’s 8ft or shorter, pets cannot be in pop-up trailers or tents, a separate pet fee per night ($5 plus tax), and a limit of two dogs per cabin. let the concierge/outpost know about your dog before arriving.
  • what to bring: a dog crate, leash, ground tie, pooper scooper & bags–always remember to pick up your dog’s poop! a plus: stay in loops 100, 200, 300, 400, or 500 for convenience–the waggin’ trails dog park is next to loop 300.
  • pet walking trails: the fort offers additional pet walking trails throughout the fort. you can walk on the sidewalks, loops, or the creeksides. 
  • want to board your pet?: the disney world resort offers boarding for pets at the best friends pet care kennel located near the port of Orleans resort. for all pets visiting the fort or being boarded at the best friends pet care kennel, make sure they are up-to-date on all their shots and vaccines. 

pixie dust tips

  • how many people can you have in your camping party?: the good thing about staying in a fort wilderness campsite is that there is no upcharge per person at your campsite. each campsite allows up to 10 people per site with no extra fees. 
  • have your own golf cart? a golf cart is the best way to get around the resort. having your own golf cart is even better. there is no  extra charge if you bring your own golf cart to the fort wilderness resort. the resort also provides golf cart parking at all its prime locations including the marina and theme park bus pickup location. 
  • cabins: the cabins offers a “get away” from the feel of being cooped up in a hotel. you can explore nature and enjoy all the amenities of the campground experience. the whole family has room to relax and burn some of that left-over energy from the parks. 
  • extra cabin amenities: the cabin kitchens are also equipped with dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, flatware, bowls, plates, mugs, bottle & can opener, cutting board & knife, cooking pots & utensils, towels, sponges, dishwasher & liquid soap, paper towels, trash bags and so much more.

  • want an adult night out? did you know that most disney resorts offer a one-to-one in-room babysitting service–for a fee of course. this includes the fort wilderness cabins & campsites. contact the reception outpost to make a reservation. 
  • fort wilderness dining link: dining at the fort
  • trading post: the settlement and meadows trading post sell souvenirs, clothing, food like eggs, deli meat, & frozen pizza, snacks, beverages, and camping & toiletry accessories. 
  • overflow parking: fort wilderness offers an overflow parking area at the front of the fort. this is great if you arrive early and your cabin or campsite is not yet ready. you can park your vehicle or rv until your resort stay is available. you can relax or go out and enjoy the parks. the overflow area is great for parking trailers too. 
  • severe weather or hurricane? what happens if severe weather or a hurricane decides to make an appearance during your stay? disney has a weather proof plan in place. safety is always a priority. if Disney decides to evacuate the fort during your stay, they will not send you on your way, they will move you and your family to the safety of one of their resorts –free of charge. 
  • captain hook tricks: since the campground is so large you need transportation to get around like a golf cart or bike. the internal bus system takes a while to get around. using your vehicle around the fort is difficult because there is limited parking areas.
    • prohibited items at the fort wilderness campground: open campfires, electric bikes, drones, skateboards, scooters, & remote control toys.
