The Ultimate Family Guide to Camping at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

If you’ve ever dreamed of mixing your love of camping with the magic of Disney World, you’re going to love Camping at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.

My family has stayed at many Disney resorts, but nothing beats camping at the Fort. The campground feels peaceful, surrounded by nature, yet still filled with that Disney magic we love. After our first 10-hour RV drive to the Fort, my husband said, “We’re never staying in a regular resort again.” He’s kept that promise and we’ve returned six times and have enjoyed every single stay.

Premium Campsite at Fort Wilderness

Sure, towing an RV down to Florida takes some fuel, but it’s worth every dime. The Fort offers several campsite options that are fit for any family needs from Tent, Full Hook-Up, Preferred, and Premium campsites.

Most times our budget allows us to book a Premium Site. The large concrete pads give us plenty of space to park both our RV and trailer with room to spare for outdoor seating, cooking, and relaxing. The premium sites also come with upgraded picnic tables and grills which make it convenient for cooking and spending time outdoors.

No matter the type of site you choose, each site has power, water, cable, and internet. Most sites include sewer hookups except tent sites.

Campsite prices vary by type, ranging from about $100 for tent sites to around $280 for premium sites. When you factor in that up to 10 guests can stay on one site at no extra charge, the value is unbeatable. It’s the perfect option for large families or groups traveling together.

Pixie Dust Alert: Starting January 2026, Disney will limit the number of guests per Fort Wilderness campsite to 8. Plan your stay accordingly!

The campground is designed in loops. Small neighborhoods of campsites that circle around a comfort station with showers, laundry, and ice machines.

We usually stay in the 400 or 500 loops, which are close to the marina and a short walk to boat transportation to Magic Kingdom. But honestly, every loop has its perks. Some are close to the pools, others are quiet and shaded. You can even request a specific loop when booking, though it’s not always guaranteed, Disney is still very good at accommodating your request.

If you’re new to camping here, take some time to explore because every corner of the Fort has its own charm. Don’t be surprised if you see deer, rabbits, or even wild turkeys along the trails!

My Pixie Dust Tip: Use the My Disney Experience App to link your Fort Wilderness campsite reservation with friends or family. This way, everyone can stay in the same loop and make magical memories together! We do this all the time.

One of the biggest reasons we love RVing at Disney is how much money we save on food. With our own kitchen, we make breakfast and lunch right at the campsite. We pack snacks for the parks and come back “home” for dinner under the stars.

The savings really add up, especially for our family of five. No dining plan needed, no waiting for restaurant reservations, and we still get to enjoy the Disney experience on a budget.

And don’t forget the legendary Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness Resort. This is a popular dinner show full of music, laughter, and all-you-can-eat fried chicken and ribs. It’s a splurge, but one we’ve never regretted. Book early because it fills up fast!

My Pixie Dust Tip: We love fixing meals at our campsite because we can plan for all our favorite foods. We also usually save room for one sit-down meal at the parks as a special treat, but planning ahead lets me set aside money so we can enjoy it without stressing over our budget.

There’s a lot to do at the Fort and many of the best activities are completely free.

  • Tri-Circle-D Ranch: One of our favorite places to stop! You can walk through the barn, visit the horses (including Cinderella’s horse), and learn about how Disney cares for its animals.
  • Movies Under the Stars & Campfire Sing-Along: This is a family tradition for us. Every night, Chip and Dale host a campfire with singing, dancing, and s’mores. Even as our kids have grown into teenagers, they still love it. Bring your own s’mores or buy a kit from the chuck wagon, but either way, it’s pure Disney magic.
  • Beach Fireworks View: You can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks and Electrical Water Pageant from the Fort’s beach area with no crowds, no stress, just cozy chairs and twinkling reflections on the water. It’s one of our favorite ways to end a Disney day. Something we do more than once during our visit.

If you’re looking for more adventure, Fort Wilderness has plenty:

  • Go for a horseback ride through the trails.
  • Rent bikes, canoes, or kayaks to explore the area.
  • Try your hand at archery or relax by one of two heated pools.
  • Relax by one of two heated pools or join in a game of volleyball.
  • Bring the furry friends along to the dog park, where they can run and play while you enjoy the surroundings.

Fort Wilderness really has something for everyone in the family, whether you love adventures, relaxation, or time with your pets.

The campground offers free internal buses that run throughout Fort Wilderness, making it easy to get from your campsite to pools, dining areas, or the marina. You can also use water transportation, like the boat launch to Magic Kingdom, which is a fun way to travel to the park.

While these options are convenient, golf carts are by far the most fun and flexible way to explore the Fort. We always bring our own cart, which saves on rental costs (just be sure to show proof of insurance and sign a waiver at check-in). If you prefer, you can rent a golf cart directly from Disney, but book early because they go fast!

We love cruising around at night to see all the campsite decorations, especially during the holidays, and a golf cart gives us the freedom to explore every loop at our own pace. It’s so convenient.

Pixie Dust Tip: Bikes are another fun option for families. Just note that electric bikes are not allowed at Fort Wilderness nor are skateboards.

We love cooking meals at our campsite because it lets us plan for all our favorites and save money:

  • Grill dinner at night: Enjoy family meal under the stars while saving hundreds of dollars.
  • Breakfast: Eat before heading to the parks to start your day full and energized without overspending.
  • Pack snacks and lunch: Bring sandwiches or snacks into the parks to avoid pricey meals.
  • Comfort Stations: Located throughout campsites and cabin loops with restrooms, showers, ice machines, and laundry. Bring water shoes, toiletries, and a small bag for your items.
  • Laundry: Each station has 5–6 washers and dryers ($3 per load, credit/debit only). Bring detergent, dryer sheets, and a basket. You can check availability or get alerts via LaundryView.com, so you can enjoy the campground while your laundry runs.
  • Online Check-In: Use the My Disney Experience App to skip the front desk. You’ll get your cabin or campsite number and arrival instructions in real time.
  • In-Person Check-In: Large RVs and campers can drive right to the Reception Outpost and check in with a Cast Member. Great if you have questions or want recommendations for activities.
  • Clean Campsites: Cast Members hose down each site and remove trash before your arrival, so you can start your stay fresh!
  • Security: Fort Wilderness has a gated entrance requiring a MagicBand or ID, and resort patrols ensure your kids can explore safely.
  • Complimentary Parking: Each cabin or campsite includes one parking spot, plus free standard self-parking at all Disney theme parks and resort hotels.
  • Free High-Speed Internet: Wi-Fi is available at campsites, cabins, pools, and throughout the resort, so it’s perfect for checking ride wait times, Lightning Lane selections, or sharing family photos while enjoying the Fort.
  • Ice Machines: Fill a 7 lb bag for $2 at every comfort station.
  • Settlement & Meadows Trading Posts: Pick up souvenirs, snacks, drinks, and camping essentials without leaving the resort.
  • Overflow Parking: Arrive early? Use the lot for your RV or trailer until your campsite is ready. Great for larger vehicles. And this allows you to get your vacation started the moment you arrive by going to a park, visiting Disney Springs for some shopping, or exploring the Fort.
  • Plan a No-Park Day: Give yourself at least one day to relax and explore Fort Wilderness. Swim, ride bikes, take a boat, or enjoy the campfire sing-along.

For everyone’s safety, the following aren’t allowed:

  • Open campfires
  • E-bikes, drones, skateboards, scooters
  • Remote-control toys

Fort Wilderness has become our family’s favorite Disney getaway. It offers plenty of space to spread out, while still keeping you close to the parks and all the magic. We love watching our kids roast s’mores at the campfire and love riding around the loops which keeps us coming back time after time.
