At long last, it’s finally here! Disney World’s Expansion Update for the New Cars and Villains Lands!
Disney has officially announced that construction on the new Cars and Villains-themed lands will begin this summer. Beginning July 7th, however, we’ll have to say farewell to some beloved classics—both the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will permanently close. I know, I know—it’s never easy to let go of the magic we’ve grown up with. But in true Disney fashion, this change promises to bring even more thrilling adventures and unforgettable experiences to the park.
Changes & New Additions
What can guests expect with these exciting new additions? As construction begins behind and around Frontierland, the Walt Disney World Railroad will temporarily suspend its full route around the park. Instead, it will only operate between the Main Street U.S.A. station and the Fantasyland station during this time. So, if you’re hoping to enjoy one last full loop around the Magic Kingdom, be sure to hop aboard before July 7th!
But what exciting thrills await guests? The new Cars-themed area will celebrate the beauty and adventure of America’s National Parks. While the Villains Land—Disney’s first-ever dedicated one—will bring our favorite Disney villains to life like never before!

Finally, the new Cars-themed area has officially been given a name—Piston Peak! Which is inspired by the stunning landscapes of America’s National Parks. This land will take guests on an off-road adventure like no other. Not only will visitors enjoy a mountain adventure, but they’ll also get to experience thrilling car rides, scenic trails, and exciting water features throughout this themed land.
Location of Piston Peak
This exciting new land will be located just to the right of Frontierland. The newly released concept art offers a sneak peek of just how the entire area will come together. It will take center stage near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain.

From the map, it’s easy to spot the exciting new adventures that await guests in Piston Peak. It will include a rugged off-road race rally course and a cozy, mountainside lodge that brings the Cars-themed experience to life. Guests will also get to experience cars with their own unique personality, name, and number—making each journey feel like a new exciting adventure.

So, what will lie beyond Big Thunder Mountain? You guessed it—the all-new Villains-themed land! Personally, this is one addition I absolutely can’t wait to experience. For the first time ever, Disney’s most iconic “bad guys” get a chance to take center stage and tell their side of the story.
Villainous Themes
Disney promises to deliver a bold and creative look into the darker side of its most iconic villains. This land will feature fan favorites like Maleficent, Ursula, and Hades. In addition to the dark atmosphere, guests can expect villainous scenery, thrilling villain-themed attractions, wickedly fun dining and shopping, and of course, dramatic meet-and-greets with the villains we all love to hate.

I can’t wait until more is revealed about these new additions coming to the Magic Kingdom Park. Continue to follow us on Budget the Magic to get the latest Disney World news, tips, tricks, and budget-friendly savings!
