Disney World: Big Changes Coming to Cinderella Castle!

If you’re as obsessed with Disney as I am, you’ll know that Destination D23 is the place where the magic-makers reveal what’s next. And this year, on August 31st, 2025, something huge was announced: In fact, Big Changes Coming to Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom!

Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom is getting a major makeover and honestly, I’m so excited to see it unfold!

Right now, the castle has that bold look with its gray base, pinkish center, and bright blue, a palette introduced for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. It’s colorful, it’s modern… but Disney has decided it’s time for something new (well, technically back to the classics).

The Imagineers are going back to a more timeless, elegant design which is one that reflects the original charm of the castle we all fell in love with. I think it’s a beautiful way to celebrate both the past and the future of the park.

For so many of us, Cinderella Castle is more than just a building, it’s the symbol of the Magic Kingdom. It’s where memories are made, where photos are taken, and where the stories begin.

Bringing back that classic look feels like taking a step back to some magical memories from the early days of Disney, while still keeping it fresh for a whole new generation of dreamers and explorers like our children.

Soon, we’ll see soft cream tones and gentle blues make their return, echoing the castle’s original, storybook charm. Paired with elegant touches of gold, every turret and detail will shimmer in the sunlight, making the entire structure feel even more enchanting. Just imagine turning the corner onto Main Street, U.S.A., and seeing the castle glowing with that classic, dreamy look. It’s going to be pure magic.

Disney hasn’t released full concept art yet, but from what I gathered at D23, more updates are coming soon to including the renovation timeline and how this might affect guest experiences during the transition.

I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this and sharing all the updates here, so if you’re planning a trip or just love following the magic like I do, stay tuned!

Whether you’re a lifelong Disney fan or planning your first visit to Magic Kingdom, Cinderella Castle is probably at the top of your must-see list and for good reason. It’s more than just a photo backdrop. It’s a masterpiece of Disney storytelling, engineering, and pure imagination. Here are some fun and fascinating things I’ve learned about this iconic structure that make me appreciate it even more:

Believe it or not, Cinderella Castle stands at 189 feet tall, making it the tallest structure in Magic Kingdom. Thanks to clever Disney Imagineering, it looks even taller through forced perspective as a trick that makes each level slightly smaller than the one below it.

Ever noticed the glittering gold accents or the 12 regal spires on top? Every detail is carefully crafted to make the castle look like something straight out of a storybook, and it totally works.

Hidden inside the castle is the exclusive Cinderella Castle Suite, a luxurious room fit for royalty. But don’t get too excited because it’s not available to book. Guests can only stay there by special invitation from Disney or during select giveaways.

Inside the castle’s breezeway, you’ll find beautiful mosaic murals made of hundreds of thousands of pieces of glass tile. They tell the entire story of Cinderella, which I love getting up close and personal to, each tile is filled with tiny, shimmering details.

Yes, you can actually eat inside the castle! Cinderella’s Royal Table offers a fairytale dining experience where guests can enjoy delicious meals while meeting beloved Disney princesses in a magical setting. This was always one of my girls’ favorites as little princesses.

At night, Cinderella Castle transforms with projection mapping, fireworks, and color-changing lights during shows like Happily Ever After. It’s one of the most unforgettable parts of any Disney trip and we make to get a glimpse during our visit.

Unlike many Disney park icons, you can actually walk through Cinderella Castle during the day. The passageway connects Main Street, U.S.A. to Fantasyland, and offers an up-close look at those incredible murals I mentioned earlier.

The castle’s look isn’t set in stone. Over the years, it’s been repainted, re-themed, and dressed up for anniversaries, holidays, and even events like the 50th celebration. But I’m excited about the upcoming return to a more classic color palette!

Beneath your feet, there’s a whole world you don’t see. “Utilidors”—underground tunnels—allow Cast Members to move throughout the park without being seen, keeping the magic alive on the surface.

If you haven’t done the Keys to the Kingdom Tour at Magic Kingdom, I highly recommend adding it to your Disney bucket list. My husband and I did it during one of our visits, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had at Walt Disney World.

This behind-the-scenes tour offers a deeper look at the magic—literally. You get to explore areas most guests never see, including a walk through the famous Utilidors (those secret underground tunnels under the park!). Plus, the cast members leading the tour share incredible stories about the park’s history, design, and Disney’s attention to detail.

Important note: You must be at least 16 years old to join the tour, so it’s perfect for adult Disney fans or teens looking for a more in-depth Disney experience.

If you’re a Disney history buff or just curious about how the magic really happens, this tour is 100% worth the time and cost.

Comment below and share your thoughts on the changes coming to the castle. Do you think returning to the classic look is a better choice than keeping the current style?

With Disney bringing back the softer, more timeless look for Cinderella Castle, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Are you excited about the change? Do you prefer the bold, more modern style we’ve had in recent years?
