Animal Kingdom with Kids & Teens
A Mom’s Complete Parent Guide To Outdoor Adventures
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of those parks that invites you to slow down and take it all in. It blends real wildlife, incredible storytelling, and breathtaking lands that make every visit feel completely different. Whether you’re exploring with toddlers, adventurous teens, there is truly something magical here for every age.
The park is divided into six immersive areas:
Africa, Asia, Pandora — The World of Avatar, Dinoland U.S.A. (soon becoming Tropical Americas), Discovery Island, and Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
Each one offers unique attractions, sights, and gorgeous details.
AFRICA
Africa is one of my absolute favorite parts of the park. The music, the colors, the drumming, the atmosphere, all feel like stepping into another world.
Kilimanjaro Safaris (All Ages)
Our family tradition is heading here first thing in the morning. The animals are most active then, and we’ve seen everything from giraffes walking right up to the truck to rhinos strolling across the road.
Festival of the Lion King (All Ages)
If Broadway and Disney had a baby, this would be it! Acrobatics, singing, dancers, and music.
Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail (All Ages)
A peaceful and fun stroll. The hippos and gorillas are always a hit with my kids.
Mom Tip (Africa Edition)
-
The Tam Tam Drummers often invite kids and moms to dance, so don’t be shy!
RAFIKI’S PLANET WATCH
This area feels like Animal Kingdom’s little secret hideaway. If your family needs a break from crowds, this is where you go.
Wildlife Express Train
A peaceful 7-minute ride that brings you to Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
Conservation Station
Teens love watching veterinarians care for the animals through the viewing windows.
Affection Section
A hands-on petting area where kids can brush and pet goats.
Animation Experience
A family favorite! We treasure our drawings from this class.
Mom Tip:
Perfect spot for quiet time, shade, and recharging.
ASIA
Asia is stunning. The temples, the details, the color and of course, the thrill rides.
Expedition Everest (44”+)
A must-do if your family loves coasters.
Mom confession: I scream every time, but I still ride!
Mom Tip:
Use Single Rider for a much faster wait.
Kali River Rapids (38”+)
A life-saver on hot Florida days. One of us always ends up SOAKED, so make sure to bring a poncho.
Maharajah Jungle Trek
Tigers tigers and more tigers.
Feathered Friends in Flight!
Educational, funny, and surprisingly heartwarming as the birds take to the air.
Mom Tip:
Meeting Russell & Dug is always magical. Kids will proudly show off their Wilderness Explorer salutes!
PANDORA
Pandora is breathtaking both day and night. It’s one of the most immersive lands Disney has ever created.
Avatar Flight of Passage (44”+)
One of the most incredible ride experiences in all of Disney World.
Na’vi River Journey (All Ages)
A soothing, beautiful boat ride (indoors, all ages)
Valley of Mo’ara
If your family loves photos, this is your spot! The land glows at night and it’s stunning.
Swotu Waya Drummers
The kids LOVE when they get a chance to join in.
Mom Tip:
Ride Flight of Passage right before park closing for shorter waits and a magical nighttime exit.
DISCOVERY ISLAND
The Tree of Life is breathtaking. Don’t miss the little walking trails around it.
Tree of Life Awakenings (Nighttime)
Glowing projections that always give me chills.
Zootopia: Better Zoogether
We just saw it and it was absolutely adorable! The show brings all our favorite characters from Zootopia, like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, together in a fun, colorful celebration inside the Tree of Life Theater.
It wasn’t a ride, but the experience was full of playful surprises and little interactive moments that made it feel like you were part of the Zootopia world. From cute animatronics to lively effects, it was a perfect mix of fun and family-friendly entertainment.
DINOLAND U.S.A.
Dinoland holds so many memories for our family, like the time my daughter cried through DINOSAUR but now laughs every time we ride it.
Disney is transforming this land into Tropical Americas, inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones. Opening is expected around 2026.
Some attractions may be closed, so check the app before you go.
We’re excited… but also savoring every last Dinoland moment.
New Tropical Americas Preview Updates
Disney has started releasing preview artwork, construction walls, and themed details around the area. The kids always love peeking through the windows to see what’s coming next!
