Free Things You Can Do at Disney World!

A trip to Disney can add up fast, but here’s the truth: Some of the BEST Disney memories are completely FREE. At Walt Disney World, you don’t have to spend extra money to have a magical day. You just need to know where to look. Let’s walk through all the fun, free things your family can enjoy.

As a mom, we have spent years doing meet and greets, and I can tell you, those moments matter. From collecting little signatures to taking sweet pictures to filling up memory books over the years, this is where the magic really happens for your kids.

And the best part? Meeting characters is INCLUDED with your park ticket.

  • Hug Mickey
  • Meet the princesses
  • Take your own photos

Yes, you may have to wait in line, but it is worth it all.

Some of our favorite memories came from those few minutes with a character. One of our favorite spots to save time is EPCOT, where you can often meet the classic Mickey characters all in one place. And over at Storybook Circus, the big tent area makes meeting characters feel extra fun for little ones.

Fun Ways to Collect Signatures

You don’t have to buy the expensive autograph books—get creative!

  • Small notebook or journal
  • T-shirt (so fun to wear later!)
  • Backpack
  • Pillowcase
  • Memory book or scrapbook

These turn into keepsakes your family will treasure for years.

Mom Tip (This Saves Time!)

Have your item and pen READY before it’s your turn to meet the characters. Trust me, when you’re next in line, things move fast!

Having everything ready:

  • Keeps the line moving
  • Helps your kids feel calm
  • Gives you more time to enjoy the moment

Parades are one of those moments where you can slow down, sit for a bit, and still feel all the Disney magic.

  • Music
  • Dancing
  • Favorite characters

As a mom, I always loved using parade time as a little reset for our day.

The BIG tip most people don’t think about: Most crowds gather on Main Street U.S.A which means it gets packed and takes longer to move around after. We actually love watching from Frontierland instead.

Here’s why:

  • It’s usually less crowded
  • Easier to find a spot
  • You can get right back to rides after the parade ends

This saves time AND keeps your day moving.

Budget Tip:
Grab a shady spot a little early, let the kids relax, maybe have a snack from your bag, and enjoy the show.

Disney has some amazing shows!

  • Stage shows
  • Stunt shows
  • Street performers
  • Dance parties for kids

As a mom, these were always our go-to when we needed a break.

Inside shows are the BEST because:

  • They’re air-conditioned
  • You can sit and rest your feet
  • Kids can relax (and sometimes even sneak in a little nap!)

And don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing along too because the shows give off a whole fun family vibe.

My top pick: Be sure to check out the new villains show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it will not disappoint!

Watching fireworks in front of the castle is one of those moments your kids will never forget. No extra ticket. No extra cost. Just find a good spot, sit together, and enjoy the magic.

As a mom, these are the moments you hold onto, the excitement, the music, the way your kids look up in awe.

Mom Tips (From Experience!)

You don’t have to watch right in the middle of the big crowds.

Here are some calmer options we love:

  • Watch from near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (less crowded and easier to move after)
  • Hop on the monorail and head to
    • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
    • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
(you can watch from the beach or higher decks at the resorts)
  • If you’re staying at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, watch from the beach near the marina.

You can still hear the music playing through the speakers on the beach, which makes it feel just as special and less overwhelming for the kids.

Family Fun at Disney is always a magical experience

Disney is all about celebrating and I love this part so much as a mom. No matter how big or small the moment is, Disney makes it feel special.

Celebrating something? Be sure to let them know at your resort front desk or right when you enter the parks and they will provide you or your entire party with a celebration button.

You can also stop by Guest Services and ask for a FREE celebration button:

  • First Visit
  • Birthday
  • Anniversary

And here’s the sweet part, Cast Members will notice it and say things like “Happy Birthday!” or “First Visit!” all day long. It may seem like a small thing, but to your kids, it feels BIG. And those little moments of being seen and celebrated is the kind of magic they remember.

This is one of my FAVORITE budget tips! Disney has hidden scavenger hunt-style activities that kids LOVE!

Adventureland Scavenger Hunt
  • Located in Magic Kingdom
  • Interactive missions with maps
  • Totally FREE
World Showcase Kidcot Fun Stops
  • Found in EPCOT
  • Kids collect cards from different countries

Expore the parks. You never know what you’ll find:

  • Musicians
  • Pop-up shows
  • Mini dance parties

Sometimes the unexpected moments are the BEST ones.

A few my family loves:

  • The Tam Tam Drummers at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • The Green Army Soldiers marching through Toy Story Land
  • Seeing Darth Vader in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
  • The piano player at Casey’s Corner on Main Street U.S.A.

These moments are completely free and sometimes even more special than the big attractions.

It’s such a fun little stop in the middle of a busy day.

  • Classic songs
  • Sing-along moments
  • Kids dancing and clapping along

One thing I always tell other moms. Disney transportation is part of the experience too.

Even just getting around can feel like a ride:

  • Monorail
  • Skyliner
  • Boats

And kids absolutely LOVE it. Sometimes, we ride just for fun, no rush, no plan, just enjoying the moment. It’s also a great way to explore other resorts besides the one you’re staying at.You can hop on, look around, walk the resorts, and take it all in without spending a thing. t’s simple, it’s free, and it’s a slower relaxing feel.

Yes, really! This may not seem like a big deal, but as a mom, with the cost of drinks at Disney, this is honestly one of my favorite free things. Every quick-service spot will give you FREE ice water. Just walk up and ask. No purchase needed. No hassle. And on those hot days (which is most days), this is a lifesaver.

Budget Tip:
Bring a refillable water bottle and keep topping it off throughout the day.

This is something I always like to share. The magic doesn’t stop when you leave the parks. There is SO much you can do for free outside the parks and sometimes, these are the most relaxing parts of your trip.

Disney BoardWalk (Evening Fun!)

One of our favorite spots at night is Disney’s BoardWalk.

  • Street performers
  • Magicians
  • Live entertainment
  • Fun atmosphere for the whole family

It feels like a little carnival at night and it’s completely free to walk around and enjoy.

Resort Exploring

You can visit Disney resorts even if you’re not staying there and I highly recommend it. Walk around, look at the details, and let your kids explore.

Some favorites:

  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (beach views + fireworks!)
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort (monorail goes right through it!)
  • Animal Kingdom (view the animals in their habitat)
Free Resort Activities

Many Disney resorts offer free activities throughout the day:

  • Outdoor movies at night
  • Campfires (sometimes with marshmallows!)
  • Lawn games
  • Crafts and kids activities

Just check the activity board at the resort or ask at the front desk.

Plan a slower day in between park days. No rushing. No long lines. Just exploring, relaxing, and letting your kids enjoy Disney in a different way.

You really don’t need to spend more to make your trip special.
