One of Disney’s most thrill-filled, strategy-driven park is Hollywood Studios. But no worries, I’m here to show you exactly how to do Hollywood Studios in one day stress free!
It offers some of the best rides at Disney, but it also has some of the longest wait times. In addition, it’s a tighter park to navigate, so walkways often feel crowded and congested, especially during peak hours.
Because of this, your timing matters more here than almost any other park.
However, the good news is this: when you plan it right, you can hit all the highlights without feeling overwhelmed.

I will be honest, it is best to get up and running early in the morning. Hollywood Studios is all about rope drop.
Arrive:
- 8:15–8:30 AM if park opens at 9
- 7:30–7:45 AM for Early Entry (highly recommended)
Start Here: Pick ONE Direction
First, you need a plan.
Hollywood Studios is not a park where you can just “figure it out.” Instead, you need to choose your starting direction based on your family.

If your group loves Toy Story, then this is your best first move.
Slinky Dog Dash is one of the most popular rides in the park, and as a result, wait times grow quickly. In fact, it’s also one of the hardest Lightning Lanes to get. So, I recommend heading here first.
After that, stay in Toy Story Land and ride:
- Toy Story Mania
- Alien Swirling Saucers
This keeps you moving with purpose and avoids backtracking.

Start with Rise of the Resistance (Best for Star Wars Fans)
However, if Star Wars is your top priority, then head straight to Galaxy’s Edge. Rise of the Resistance is one of the most immersive rides in all of Disney. Because of that, it also builds long wait times early. And unfortunately, it tends to breakdown throughout the day, so it is best to get this ride done as early as possible.
So, if this is a must-do, go here first.

Now, once you get through your first ride, you can begin layering in the rest of your day.
Over the years, I’ve learned what works best for my family at Hollywood Studios. Now that my kids are older, it’s easier because we all enjoy the same rides—from thrill rides to the more relaxed ones. However, when they were younger, we often split up so we could make the most of our day.
For example, one parent would take the younger kids to family-friendly attractions, while the older kids tackled the bigger rides. Then, we would meet back up and keep going together.
Because of that, flexibility is key in this park.
So, if you’re visiting with mixed ages, the strategy below works really well to help everyone enjoy the day without feeling rushed or missing out.
For Teens:
- Tower of Terror (40”)
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (48”)
- Rise of the Resistance (40”)
- These are your thrill rides.
For Younger Kids:
- Toy Story Mania
- Alien Swirling Saucers
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- These are fun, interactive, and great for mixed ages.

If you want to save time (and money), then use single rider whenever you can.
Now, you most likely won’t ride directly with your group. However, you’ll often board close together, sometimes just a row or two apart. More importantly, the time savings can be significant.
In many cases, what could be a 60–90 minute wait in the regular line can drop to 15–30 minutes using single rider. That means you can ride more, wait less, and avoid paying for Lightning Lane.
So, if your family is okay splitting up for a few minutes, this is one of the easiest ways to move through Hollywood Studios more efficiently and avoid Lightning Lane up charges.
Best spots:
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Currently, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is going through changes with the Muppets retheme. However, I expect it will continue to offer a single rider option once it reopens).
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

By midday, the park gets hot and crowded. So, instead of standing in long ride lines, take a break from 12–3 PM. This is the best time to step into shows and air conditioning.
Best Shows to Cool Off
- Indiana Jones Stunt Show (covered seating – outdoors)
- Frozen Sing-Along (indoor + fun for all ages)
- Beauty & the Beast Live Show (covered seating – outdoors)
- Villains Show (new — great for older kids and teens)
Although Indiana Jones and Beauty & the Beast offer covered seating, they are still outdoor shows. So, while you’ll get some shade, you won’t get full air conditioning like you do with Frozen or Villains.
Pixie Dust Tip: Because these shows are popular, be sure to arrive about 20–30 minutes early to grab good seats and sit together.

Since most guests rush to the big rides early in the morning and realistically, you can’t hit them all right away—things begin to shift later in the day.
As the afternoon turns into evening, crowds start to spread out. Some guests head to dining reservations, while others begin leaving the park. As a result, wait times may drop slightly.
Because of that, this becomes your second chance to catch rides you may have missed earlier.
Best Late Day Rides:
- Tower of Terror
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (use single rider)
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Don’t Skip Galaxy’s Edge at Night
Even if you already rode earlier, make your way back. At night, everything changes.
The lights.
The atmosphere.
The Millennium Falcon glowing.
It becomes one of the most immersive areas in all of Disney and truly one of the best ways to end your day.

There are some great places to eat in Hollywood Studios. I will keep it simple. My family is never looking for a big meal that fills us up too much that we can’t enjoy the rides. Our stategy is always to snack around the park. Think if it as little filling mini meals.
Woody’s Lunch Box (Toy Story Land)
- Quick. Easy. Kid-friendly.
- Grilled cheese
- Totchos (Instead of tortilla chips, they use crispy tater tots as the base. Then, they load them up with toppings like chili, queso, shredded cheese, and sour cream). Totally shareable.
- My daughter also loves the tomato soup dipped with a grill cheese sandwich.
Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo
- Location: Galaxy’s Edge
- Type: Quick Service
- Indoor Seating: Yes
- Good for Mixed Ages: Yes
Docking Bay 7 is one of the best places to grab a meal in Hollywood Studios, especially when you need a break from the heat.
While the menu is themed to Star Wars, the food is still very approachable for families. You’ll find options like roasted chicken, ribs, rice bowls, and kid-friendly meals that aren’t too adventurous.
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant
- Location: Commissary Lane
- Type: Table Service
- Indoor Seating: Yes (dark, air-conditioned)
- Good for Mixed Ages: Yes
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater is one of the most unique dining experiences in Hollywood Studios.
Here, you sit in retro “cars” facing a big screen while classic sci-fi movie clips play. Because of that, it feels more like an experience than just a meal and kids usually love it.
The food is simple and familiar, with burgers, fries, and shakes, so it’s easy for everyone in the family to find something they’ll enjoy.
If You’re Looking for Character Meals
f your family wants to add a character dining experience to your day, Hollywood Studios has a fun option.
Hollywood & Vine
- Location: Echo Lake
- Type: Table Service (Character Dining)
- Indoor Seating: Yes
- Good for Younger Kids: Yes
Hollywood & Vine offers a rotating character meal featuring Disney Junior characters or Minnie and friends, depending on the time of day and season.
Best Snacks
- Jack-Jack Cookie Num Num
- Blue Milk (Galaxy’s Edge)
- Mickey Ice Cream Bars
- Pro tip: Share snacks to save money.

While Hollywood Studios is known for its thrill rides, it also offers plenty of fun experiences for families, especially if you’re traveling with younger kids or just need to slow down your day.
Disney Junior Play & Dance
- Animation Courtyard
If you have little ones, this is a great stop. Here, kids can dance, move around, and interact with Disney Junior characters in a fun, high-energy show. It’s a nice break from standing in lines and gives kids a chance to rest.
Character Meet & Greets
You’ll also find character meet-and-greet opportunities in Animation Courtyard filled with activities.
Toy Story Land “Parade Moments”
While Hollywood Studios doesn’t have a traditional parade like Magic Kingdom, Toy Story Land often has fun character interactions and mini “parade-style” moments.
You may see characters out and about, music playing, and a lively atmosphere that makes it feel interactive and fun for kids.
Fantasmic! (Nighttime Show)
- Sunset Boulevard
- Evening Show
- Great for the Whole Family
If you can stay late, Fantasmic! is the perfect way to end your day. This show combines water effects, music, characters, and fireworks into one big Disney production. Because it’s so popular, plan to arrive 30–45 minutes early for a good seat.

Getting to Hollywood Studios is easier than some of the other parks. However, how you get there can make a big difference in your morning strategy.
Disney Buses (Available from All Resorts)
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort, buses are always an option.
However, buses can fill up quickly in the morning. Because of that, I recommend arriving at the bus stop at least 60 minutes before park opening, especially if you’re trying to rope drop.
Disney Skyliner (Best Option If Available)
If you’re staying at:
- Pop Century
- Art of Animation
- Caribbean Beach
- Riviera Resort
The Skyliner is your best option. It’s quick, consistent, and often faster than buses. Because of that, many families prefer it for early mornings.
Friendship Boats (Relaxed Option)
If you’re staying near:
- BoardWalk
- Beach Club
- Yacht Club
You can take a Friendship Boat.
This is a slower but relaxing option. However, for rope drop, walking or Skyliner is usually faster.
Walking Path (Best for Early Entry Guests)
From:
- BoardWalk
- Beach Club
- Yacht Club
You can walk to Hollywood Studios.
This is often the fastest and most reliable option in the morning. No waiting. No crowds. Just a straight path to the entrance.

Let’s simplify it.
Morning = Headliner rides
Midday = Shows + AC break
Late afternoon = Thrill rides + re-rides
If you hit:
- Slinky Dog or Rise
- Tower of Terror
- One show
- One Star Wars experience

Hollywood Studios can feel overwhelming at first.
However, when you start early, move with purpose, and take breaks in the afternoon, it becomes one of the most exciting days of your trip.
You don’t need to do everything.
You just need a plan.
