Disney World Resort Changes in 2026: What’s New, What’s Closed, and What Families Should Know

Disney World resorts have changed a lot over the past few years. Those changes continue in 2026. From resort updates to closures and new openings, here’s what you need to know before you book your trip.

No New Disney Hotel Opens in 2026

Even though Disney World will not open new hotels in 2026, progress continues. Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge near Fort Wilderness Resort is making great progress.

This upcoming resort looks like it will be a beautiful addition to the overall Fort Wilderness atmosphere, especially for guests who want a quieter, more relaxing escape from the busy parks. Designed with nature in mind, Lakeshore Lodge will blend seamlessly into the surrounding wooded setting.

The resort will be part of the Disney Vacation Club, making it an appealing option for DVC members and families who enjoy deluxe-style stays with a peaceful vibe. While the official opening is expected in 2027, early plans suggest it will be well worth the wait.

As Disney releases more details, I’ll continue to update this post so you can stay informed about what’s coming next.

Major Resort Renovations & Closures in 2026

Disney World has big plans for several resorts in 2026 and those changes could affect your stay. Many hotels will continue construction and refurbishments next year. To help you plan, I’ve created a list so you know where you may see construction or scaffolding.

Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Kidani Village rooms are being refreshed into early 2026.
  • Jambo House rooms will begin upgrades starting May 2026 through January 2027.
Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Starting January 26 through May 2026, major renovations will take place at Bay Lake Tower. During this time, the pool, water play areas, and spa will be closed. As a result, guests staying at the tower will need to use the main Contemporary Resort pool.

Port Orleans – Riverside

If your booking Port Orleans – Riverside in 2026, you may still encounter construction, noise, and some closures. This is because Disney has extended the resort’s refurbishment through August 2026.

Other Hotel Updates

The good news is that Pop Century Resort has just finished its room refresh, making the rooms more modern and comfortable for guests.

Why 2026 Has More Construction Than Usual

Disney is always changing and evolving to create the best experience for its guests. This includes not only the parks, but the resorts as well. As a result, Disney is in a period of updating and modernizing many resort rooms while also upgrading amenities. Overall, these changes help prepare for the park expansions planned after 2026.

Because of these changes, it may be a good idea to visit before 2027 is in full swing. Crowds could be lighter as construction continues. While some updates may cause minor inconveniences, the payoff could be worth it. A 2026 trip may offer fewer crowds and a chance to see Disney in the middle of exciting changes.

Tips for Your Disney World 2026 Hotel Stay

  • Book Early: First, booking early gives you the best resort choices and prices. Because of ongoing construction, room availability may be limited. In addition, if Disney releases deals or discounts later, they can usually be applied to your existing reservation.
  • Check Disney’s Refurbishment schedule: Because Disney rotates updates throughout the year, it’s important to look for resort pool closures, restaurant closures, and amenity changes before you arrive.
  • Consider Your Priorities: If construction noise bothers you, choose resorts not near large refurbishment projects. Doing so can lead to quieter rooms, fewer blocked walkways, and a smoother resort experience.
